Our qualifications and courses in education offer the exciting prospect of making a difference. It’s important both for individual success and society’s continuing development. With the changes now taking place to widen participation and strengthen teaching and learning at all levels, education is – more than ever – a dynamic, challenging and rewarding sector to be involved in.
You might be thinking about teacher training, about working as a classroom assistant, or you might be interested in keeping up to date in order to support your own child in school. The OU offers education courses to suit a wide range of students. At undergraduate level, you will find that your study of education will be closely linked to studying courses about young children’s development, especially in the early years, before they begin formal schooling. You might like to start with course Supporting learning in primary schools (E111), which is designed for those who wish to support children in primary school classrooms.
If you're fairly confident about studying, then start with Level 1 courses. You'll learn how to study at university level, get a thorough grounding in your chosen area of study and, in addition, you'll become a confident distance learner.
Worried about your ability? Or the time it will take? If you're a UK resident you can start with one of our Openings courses: short courses with lots of support and no exams, giving you a gradual introduction to your subject and the world of studying.
Don't forget that if you need help considering options you can talk to an adviser. And if you have some previous study experience you may qualify for credit transfer.
